  1. I love this book. Look and Grow Mindful has opened my eyes to the wonders we take for granted. It lifted a veil and made me, for the first time, really look at the world. It’s words lingered long after I closed the back cover, and left me with the unsettled feeling that I’d wasted so much time. Read it, and hope that you’ve not left it too late.

Look and Grow Mindful adds another dimension to our perception of this amazing world in which we live . The pictures are glorious and one gets a feeling of well being given a new way to see and appreciate our surroundings, a glimmer of sunlight through leaves, an amazingly magnificent sunset, sunlight on a raindrop and many things one has but glimpsed at. An enlightening read.

David’s brilliant book makes us realize that we have gone through life seeing and adverting to only a very small proportion of our surroundings. It is a beautiful commentary on the words ‘Be still and know that I am Lord’.

I was privileged to have heard of this book at the beginning of the planning stage when David spoke with me about his philosophy of life and of education. What has emerged is a beautiful book, carefully crafted to produce a balance between accessible text, poetry and personal reflection. From the front cover photo of starlings to the accompanying pictures to the book, this publication is true to its title – look & grow mindful. A wonderful publication to share with family, friends and colleagues and a nudge to us all to see what we might be missing!

Hello David. We met through Dromineer Literary Festival. Interested to see we (to coin a phrase) are of one mind. Was not aware of your book. Looking forward very much to reading it. Kindest regards to you both. Pat PS Have you explored Process Philosophy at all? I love Jane Hirshfield’s definition of Buddhism: Everything changes / Everything is connected / Pay attention. So profoundly simple.

    • david says:

Thanks, Pat. Delighted that you like LOOK AND GROW MINDFUL. Pass the word on. If you can tell three people, then maybe it will go viral.
No, I didn’t know about Process Philosophy but I’ll follow it up, and Jane Hirshfield too.

      Best.

      David

  6. Lorraine O' Byrne says:

Your book is a real eye opener David: the imagery is wonderful, not only in the pictures but in the text as well, it’s so rich, poetic and descriptive I can see everything clearly in my mind. The attention to detail, the simplicity, it’s very much in tune with nature. People are so caught up with their lives and material things they forget to take those valuable moments to pause, look and appreciate the true beauty that surrounds them.

    Gets five stars from me!

  7. David Courtney says:

Well done David. Great photography married to a great book. You have always led the way and once more, your invitation to be mindful and to see what is all around us, beauty and wonder at every turn, leads us to a peace and serenity that is the threshold of mindfulness. I remember a quote : ‘You can go through life thinking that nothing is a wonder, or that everything is a wonder.’ I know which category you are in !! Thanks ! David Courtney

      To Dave Courtney

Thank you from my heart. And so grateful for that quote about nothing is a wonder, or everything is. I have lived the latter all my life, and I suspect you have too. Keep on wondering. ~ David

I have just finished reading David’s book and it has brought me much pleasure as well as the determination to follow the road of Mindfulness. I was already a lover of nature and looking and admiring but the book has given me extra motivation to put this into continual practice. I admire (and envy !) David’s knowledge to be able to cite so many references of writers, philosphers, poets and am keeping the ‘reading list’ nearby so as to continue on this road. I would thoroughly recommend reading this book as it will, without doubt, bring you a need to search for Mindfulness to bring you serenity. Thank you David it was just what I needed.

Julia — I really appreciate what you have said. It’s words like yours that keep me wanting to write more about Mindfulness. And to practise it at every oportunity. Pass the word along to everyone you can reach, so as to get everyone into Mindfulness.

I thoroughly enjoyed David Rice’s book and consider that it more than deserves a 5 star rating. It definitely has a strong impact on you and a conviction to follow David’s message. I loved all the references to philosophers, poets, writers and have kept the bigliography neer to hand so as to follow up with some of the reading. I have always loved nature and looking but this has given me a new dimension. Thank you David

  11. Gloria McKeogh says:

I cannot wait to read this book, as I have been saved by being mindful. I mean this, as when I had nothing left as I thought I found that nature filled my basket to the brim and gave me a complete new outlook. Best of luck with this as it will be an invaluable tool to have and I just can’t wait.

    • david says:

      Hi Gloria

Thanks so much for your kind comment. I hope the book lives up to your expectations and that it will be really helpful. It took me 16 years of pondering and note making to write it. I’d love to think that it has been worth it, in that it really helps people. If you do find it helpful. Perhaps you might post a comment on Amazon. It is something that really helps.

I Maggie bought the Book (Look and Grow mindful for a friends birthday) Susie …

She text me back and said
Oh Mag’s I’m already in love with David 🙂
Our marvellous man who always notices what makes us feel free and happy 🙂

  13. Maggie B says:

I have read this book twice and I have enjoyed it immensely, but more importantly what I got out of it was immense.

I have been captivated again by nature and skies and trees. Ten hours a day in an office and a 40 minute drive each way – I do believe blinded me a little.

I read chapter three the SKIES and now (RELISH) my drive and our skies and the shapes and colours.
I hadn’t realised that I had stopped being mindful.
I pay heed now, take my time and I am the better for it and HEY the skies are only a part of it, the tree’s the rivers and much much more. I truly loved this book and it brought beauty back to me – thank-you David x
